China National Opera House Chorus
Since its founding in 1950, alongside the establishment of the China National Opera House, the chorus has been an essential presence in both opera and choral arts.
Throughout its history, this exceptional ensemble has contributed to numerous landmark Chinese opera productions, including Wang Gui and Li Xiangxiang, Liu Hulan, Song of the Grasslands, Spring Thunder, The Cloud That Longs for Her Husband, Ayiguli, The Great Wall of the South Sea, The Flower Guardian, The Hundredth Bride, March of the Soldiers and Civilians, and Marco Polo. Additionally, the chorus has participated in staging many renowned international operas such as La Traviata, Madama Butterfly, The Young Guard, The Peddler and the Lady, Eugene Onegin, Le Nozze di Figaro, Carmen, La Bohème, Pagliacci, The Taming of the Shrew, Rigoletto, and Turandot. In 1987, the chorus expanded its repertoire by performing in the American musicals The Music Man and The Fantasticks. Many of these performances have been recognized as outstanding works, receiving multiple awards from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China.
Beyond opera, the chorus frequently performs in concerts and major cultural events, presenting classic choral masterpieces such as The Yellow River Cantata, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, and Verdi’s Messa da Requiem. The chorus has toured in over 50 countries across Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and Africa, firmly establishing itself as a high-caliber ensemble on the global music stage.
